STACKREAD PRIVACY POLICY Last updated: September 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how StackRead ("StackRead," "we," "us," or "our"), as the data fiduciary for this service, collects, uses, and shares information when you use the StackRead iOS app and the backend services that power it. StackRead turns reading lists you choose to import into a personal library, daily pick, streak tracking, and optional reminders.
By using StackRead, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app. This notice is separate from our Terms of Use.

1. Scope
This policy covers the StackRead iOS application distributed through the Apple App Store and the API that serves that app. It does not cover third-party sites or apps you open from StackRead (for example Instagram, Substack, Apple, or Google), which have their own policies.
2. How We Collect Information
We collect information you provide directly (sign-in, pasted captions, shared links, reminder preferences), information created when you use the app (saved items, read status, streaks), and information from service providers that help operate StackRead (Apple or Google sign-in profile fields you authorize; Apple and RevenueCat subscription status; Expo push tokens when you enable reminders; OpenAI outputs for imports you request). When you import an Instagram URL, our servers may fetch publicly available page text or images associated with that URL solely to complete your import. When resolving a publication you chose to save, our servers may also fetch publicly available publisher page metadata (for example a newsletter homepage) solely to complete that resolution.
3. Information We Collect
Account information - Email address and display name from Sign in with Apple or Google via Supabase Auth. Apple may supply a Hide My Email private relay address. - A unique user identifier for your StackRead account.
Library and import content - Instagram or other source URLs you import, captions or text you paste or share, and metadata needed to process the import. - Related images retrieved for a URL you import, or screenshots you explicitly upload, solely to complete that import. - Resolved reading links, publication names, titles or other extracted recommendation fields, items you save, read status, and streak activity.
Device and notification information - Timezone and reminder preferences. - An Expo push notification token if you enable daily reminders (via Apple Push Notification service).
Purchase and entitlement information - Subscription product, entitlement status, expiration, and renewal signals from Apple through RevenueCat. StackRead does not collect payment card numbers or full billing addresses; Apple processes payment.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use third-party advertising networks. We do not use your data for tracking across other companies' apps or websites as defined by Apple, and we do not "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. How We Use Information
We use this information to: - Create and authenticate your account and keep you signed in. - Process imports you request, extract reading recommendations, resolve links, and maintain your personal library, daily pick, and streaks. - Send optional reminders you enable. - Verify paid access and sync subscription status. - Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service (including limited operational logs). - Respond to support and privacy requests. - Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use.
5. AI Processing Disclosure (Openai)
Import extraction uses OpenAI, a third-party AI provider. Before we send import content to OpenAI, the iOS app asks for your explicit permission (Apple App Review Guideline 5.1.2(i)). You can revoke that permission in Settings > AI processing.
When you allow AI processing and start an import, StackRead may send to OpenAI: - Captions and other text you paste or share. - Images or screenshots you explicitly provide with the import (vision / image-understanding models when needed). - Limited context needed to resolve a publication or article link. If web search is enabled on our servers, automated search queries derived from that import may be sent to OpenAI and/or a search provider (for example Brave) to help resolve links.
This happens only for imports you request after granting permission. Do not import sensitive personal information you do not want processed by subprocessors.
OpenAI acts as a service provider / subprocessor. OpenAI may process data in data centers outside India. Under OpenAI's API data controls, API customer content is not used to train or improve OpenAI models by default. OpenAI may retain API inputs and outputs for a limited period (typically up to 30 days) for abuse monitoring unless a stricter retention control applies to our account. StackRead does not use imported content to train StackRead's own models. We do not sell your import content. Extracted recommendations are AI-assisted and may be incomplete or incorrect — review them before saving.
6. Service Providers and Equal Protection
We share information only as needed to operate StackRead: - Supabase — authentication, database, and API hosting. - OpenAI — AI extraction and related processing described above. - Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store billing, and push delivery. - Google — Google sign-in when you choose that option. - RevenueCat — subscription entitlement sync with Apple. - Expo — push notification delivery when reminders are enabled. - Optional search providers (for example Brave) when web search is enabled for link resolution.
We require third parties that receive personal data to provide the same or equal protection of that data as described in this Privacy Policy and as required by Apple's App Review Guidelines, subject to their own published terms and applicable law.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate safeguards.
7. International Transfers
StackRead is operated under the laws of India (Karnataka). Service providers may process data in other countries. By using the app you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.
8. Retention
We keep account, library, activity, reminder, and entitlement data while your account remains active and as needed to provide the service. Import images are processed to complete the request and are not kept by StackRead as a permanent image library. Limited security and operational logs may persist for periods set by our hosting providers. Purchase records may be retained by Apple and RevenueCat as required for billing and fraud prevention. OpenAI may retain API content for abuse monitoring as described above.
9. Your Choices, Consent, and Rights
Choices in the app - Decline or disable notifications in StackRead or iOS Settings. - Use Apple's Hide My Email option when signing in with Apple. - Allow or revoke OpenAI import processing in Settings > AI processing. - Permanently delete your account in Settings or on the paywall (removes StackRead database records and auth identity on our systems; when configured, we also revoke Sign in with Apple tokens). Your App Store subscription does not cancel automatically — manage billing in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Deleting your StackRead account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Manage or cancel billing in iOS Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. Apple and RevenueCat may retain transaction records needed for purchase administration.
Rights (including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act where it applies) Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of your personal data, withdraw consent (with comparable ease to giving it), nominate another person to exercise rights on your behalf where the law provides, and seek grievance redressal by emailing support.stackread@gmail.com. You may also file a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India once that mechanism is available for your case under applicable rules. We aim to acknowledge privacy requests within a reasonable period.
10. Children
StackRead is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 18, use StackRead only with parent or guardian involvement as required by applicable law (including India's DPDP Act, under which a child is under 18). We do not use children's data for tracking, behavioral monitoring, or targeted advertising. Contact support.stackread@gmail.com if you believe a child has provided personal information so we can delete it.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the nature of the service (including HTTPS and provider access controls). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
12. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date will change when we do. Continued use of StackRead after an update means you accept the revised policy. Material changes may also be called out in the app or by email when appropriate.
13. Contact and Grievance
